Why I Think Electric Cars Should be Stopped

Electric cars should stop being made because electric car batteries are made from lithium which can only be gathered by mining. In order to mine the lithium out of the ground we need to use large gas and diesel powered machinery. These machines produce more carbon monoxide which pollutes the world, versus a traditional gas powered vehicle. It is estimated that over 15 tonnes of carbon monoxide is released per year mining lithium, compared to a standard gas car that only produces 4.4 tonnes of carbon monoxide. Another reason why I think electric vehicles should be stopped is because of the price of electric vehicles. For example the price range of electric cars range from $48,430 for the base trim all the way to around $64,936 or even more, compared to a gas powered vehicle which ranges from $17,000 to $35,000+. Also the range of electric cars is much worse compared to gas cars which means it could be challenging to go on long road trips because you will have to stop to charge, compared to gas powered cars you can fill up the tank in under 5 minutes. These are some of the reasons why I feel like electric cars should be stopped and discontinued.

Hi Miguel, I agree with your idea about electric cars damaging the world. You explained that standard gas cars produce 4.4 tonnes of carbon monoxide compared to electric cars producing 15 tonnes. Which doesn’t help the environment at all. However, I believe we should not get rid of them completely, because they are here to help the gas that is in our environment. But, they should get better at developing electric cars. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteHello Miguel, I like the points you have made points about the carbon monoxide release, but you should have also mentioned how just the mining of lithium can leak harmful chemicals into the environment. For example, lithium mining can cause serious harm to the soil of the surrounding area, it also poisons the nearby water supply of the area. just a suggestion.
